DAW’S Home Furnishings, of El Paso, TX, evolved from the original S.O.S. TV and Appliance Company, which opened in 1951, as a small retail showroom in a radio and television repair shop. Yazbik Daw, along with three other partners, joined forces as the birth of color television created a golden opportunity for business growth in the El Paso area. Quick to recognize the new trend, they opened a second and third showroom in 1958 and 1959. Strategically located throughout El Paso, these new facilities offered El Pasoans the largest selection of appliances and electronics, with friendly customer service to go with it all.
After adding furniture to the product mix, Yaz Daw and his wife, Rosalie broke away from the small chain, in 1969, order to increase the growth of sales and establish a firm foundation for their family of eight children. In doing so, Yaz changed the name of his store to DAW’S S.O.S. TV Appliance and Furniture Company.
By the 1980s, the whole Daw family was actively involved in various phases of the business, working alongside their parents. By 1984, the furniture side of the business had grown and the name changed to DAW’S Home Furnishings, offering merchandise to satisfy entire household needs from appliances and electronics to furniture and home accessories. In 1986, the "Daw Gang" opened their current 40,000 square foot showroom and warehouse, located in the heart of El Paso at Interstate 10 between Hunter and McRae.
In 2000, a new 45,000 square foot showroom, design center, and warehouse was constructed adjacent to the existing DAW’S building and opened as Thomasville Home Furnishings. At both DAW’S and Thomasville, our motto is "make yourself at home," a phrase Yaz Daw used for many years and is living on through future generations of the Daw family. Through the growth of the family and the business, our customers have been our #1 focus, a value Yaz possessed in the beginning and instilled in us to carry on.
Today, Yaz and Rosie’s children and grandchildren manage the business that has been serving the El Paso and surrounding areas for 70 years. Siblings Wade, Mark, and Teresa, along with Yaz & Rosie's grandchildren Bryan & Stephanie, continue to fulfill the dream of their parents and grandparents. At DAW’S, a member of the family will always be available to serve you.
